We make each boot sole to your specific measurements.

The sole is the foundation of a boot and getting it right is the key to crafting a pair of perfectly-fitting boots. As genuine custom bootmakers we make each boot sole to your specific measurements. This is something that sets us apart from most other so-called custom bootmakers who typically source their soles in bulk quantities from companies who sell them in standard widths and sizes.

But real feet do not come in standard widths and sizes. And so we make all of our soles 'in-house,' the length and width based on your personal measurements. To do this a pattern based on these measurements is transferred onto a sheet of leather known in the trade as 'sole bends.' These are slow tanned to obtain a durable, but malleable, leather. The soles are then hand-cut to the specific width of each client's foot, a true custom service that is seldom found these days.

The soles are then put through a planer to ensure the correct thickness. These are then 'turned' in one of our special routing machines to finish the edges. The next part of the process varies depending on the style of the boot. Flats often have a leather welt added around the perimeter of the sole to make a neat finish. Higher heels have the upper face of the sole honed down to an elegant edge. They are then sanded, cleaned and stained to the desired color and finish. It is a far cry from the standard one-shape-fits-all offered by most bootmakers.
