Design Your Own Boots

The manufacturing of footwear remains a process which is essentially a manual one. The process contains many different steps. These different steps would be difficult, if not impossible to automate as they require a great deal of knowledge and years of training. This process is even more intense in the making of boots, especially those "made to measure".
Design
As in all footwear designing, the first step starts with a drawing. This drawing is then used as the basis for template preparation, one template for each of the elements required to manufacture the boot, i.e. upper, sole, heel, etc.
One of the key elements is the shape. It is the shape that will give the boot all its essential qualities and the greatest comfort for the wearer. In the case of our custom-made boots, we use all of the measurements provided by you to prepare the unique templates or patterns for each element of the boot. This is one of the most important phases in the bootmaking process, and is both highly skilled and extremely time consuming. The result? The comfort and style you, the boot wearer will appreciate for years! We will keep your measurement information on file, allowing us to make another pair of boots for you any time in the future.
Quality control is important to us because we know that quality is important to you! Leather is fundamentally a natural product, so despite various levels of quality preparation by the tanneries, there are, all too often, considerable variations in the quality of hides. It is for this reason that our quality control and inspection is so complete and thorough before we use any leather hide to make your boots.
Manufacture
The cutting of the leather is the first stage in the production cycle, each cut is made to match each measurement you have provided. The standard size and style are produced from pattern and press tooling. Made-to-measure being cut by hand using the prepared template. Over 25 different operations are required to completely stitch together a boot. The elements are assembled one by one, some of these, the simplest ones, are completed in a flat plane. Others are free form and require a great deal of skill and expertise!
The craftsman's skill of our bootmakers is in their intimate knowledge of their art. The "Art of Bootmaking"... an art and skill that is quite alive at Euroboots. The hand cutting of the leather requires the personal touch of a highly skilled craftsman! A great part of this art is creating a 3-D object, the boot, from flat components using a natural leather material.
One of the most difficult tasks is to join the upper to the sole. Incorrect assembly will result in creases being visible on the surface of the boot and/or an uncomfortable fit. This will contribute to premature wear and failure of the boots. During the assembly, each craftsperson uses the detailed information provided to ensure that each boot will provide the level of comfort expected from our quality product.
Finishing and Packing
After the assembly has taken place, the finishing operations are carried out. The lining is hard pressed to ensure the smoothest finish. A polishing and feeding operation is carried out to clean and prepare the leather. The pressing and ironing of the surface of the boot helps with the penetration of the polish and gives a uniform finish to the uppers. These operations are of course different for suede and varnished leathers. All products are then wrapped in a top quality tissue paper and then boxed for shipping.
All of our boots are manufactured following these guidelines in our workshops at Le Boupere, in Vendee, France. We know we make quality boots that you will enjoy for years! We are certain you will agree!
